Rolling vineyards, salty air, and food + wine at every turn. McLaren Vale is made for days that start slow and end golden.

Here’s how we’d spend one perfect day.

Morning – Coffee & Coastline

Start with a stop at Goodness Coffee Co – the kind of spot locals line up for, with seriously good coffee and an easy, coastal vibe. With your cup in hand, head to nearby Aldinga Beach for a morning walk along the sand. There’s nothing like salty air and big skies to set the pace for the day ahead.

Late Morning – Primo Estate Wines

Ease into your day at Primo Estate, where Italian heritage meets McLaren Vale terroir. Their sleek cellar door feels both modern and welcoming, and tastings often come with their own extra virgin olive oil and fresh bread alongside the wines. A beautiful way to pause, sip, and settle into the region.

Lunch – Maxwell Wines

For lunch, settle in at Maxwell Wines for their degustation. The food here is unbelievable – seasonal, creative, and beautifully plated – with each course paired thoughtfully to the estate’s wines.

Afternoon — Yangarra Estate

Spend your afternoon at Yangarra Estate. Their biodynamic vineyards produce some of the most characterful wines in the Vale, but don’t leave without trying their port — rich, velvety, and unforgettable.

Golden Hour — Sunset Lookout

Before the day winds down, chase the light.

Two spots worth it:

  • Port Willunga Beach – dramatic cliffs, golden sand, and a painterly sky as the sun dips.
  • Victory Hotel Lookout – sweeping vineyard views with a casual country-pub vibe if you want one last glass.

Evening

By now, you’ll have a full heart (and glass). McLaren Vale always leaves you wanting more and that’s the beauty of it.

One day is never enough, but it’s a perfect start.
